My Liberal Identity

via HyperLiterature

How to Win a Fight With a Conservative is the ultimate survival guide for political arguments

My Liberal Identity:

You are a Reality-Based Intellectualist, also known as the liberal elite. You are a proud member of what’s known as the reality-based community, where science, reason, and non-Jesus-based thought reign supreme.

According to this site I am:

****You are an Eco-Avenger, also known as an environmentalist or tree hugger. You believe in saving the planet from the clutches of air-fouling, oil-drilling, earth-raping conservative fossil fools.***

Not a big surprise here for me.
But you, scoring as you did - it's a bit frightening to me. I don't see it fits you quite perfectly - does it?

I scored the same as you, princess! However, I tend to think I would come out more on the "kickin some ass with Kung Foo" side of liberalism, but Intellectual works just fine for me too.

I must admit I wonder sometimes if the owner of this blog is indeed the same who had built and continues to run Luminarium. In reading some of your posts, I wonder, "Where did all that education go?"

Not to degrade at all the quality of your posts in any way, but the sheer lack of focus in your posts...I think to myself: doesn't she, after her immense learning and obvious brilliance, wish to apply them by creating a magnus opus of some kind?

What I would give to have a tenth of your education! And then I realized in reading this lastest post, ay! The Achilles heel! You are a liberal!

I think it now doubly true of that great man's saying, "Culture is a minor consideration in the absence of belief." How true!

I do hope--and pray--you find your voice. What a moment that would be indeed!

Hey Jae H. Lee,

do you think attack the best possible form of delurking?
I've been visiting Anniina's blog for a while. Sometime I visit Luminarium, too, but that stuff is a bit difficult for me to digest, blame it on English being my second language.
I have all the admiration you mention you have towards her - yet this does not show up when you tell her down about her being a liberalist.

I have many liberal friends, almost all of them are caring and generous persons with high intelligence, including the owner of this blog - and although I consider myself a conservative, I don't feel I have the right to say the things like you said.

Conservatives, like you and me are less tolerant, that's why we are not liberals in the first place, but still, I'm convinced we should be learning some more acceptance.

Hope Anniina doesn't mind my interruption. It's her blog after all...

Jae H. Lee,

This is my personal blog. Where I write my private thoughts to share with my friends and family. This is not an "educational" blog by any means. I find your comments to be very mean spirited. I will ignore your existence.

Don't worry about stuff like this, Anniina. As you know, the public blogo-shpere will occasionally yield self-righteous, pathetic drivel like this.
I think you're great!

I still dont understand peoples' need to actually waste time with such negative comments. No one forces you to read something you don't want to, and what Anniina said was right. A blog is intended to share ones thoughts with friends, family, and whoever else strolls by and might take an interest to something in the blog. She has always had jokes, and a variety of things she found interesting on her blog. By doing so shes hooked many people to reading her blog. I enjoy a lot of the quizzes and things on here as well. If you intend to just insult what she she feels like sharing or putting on her blog, then don't post anything. All you've managed to do is make those of us who actually enjoy her blog angry, or at least I speak for myself when saying that.

Anyway, hope you are enjoying your friends visit Alay! :) I guess I'm an "Eco-Avenger" Not sure if I agree, but I'll go along with it. Has a ring to it if nothing else, haha. Take care of yourself.

Whoa, I didn't intend to offend anyone with my post, sorry if I did. Perhaps I got carried away with mine own study of literature and those who have committed themselves not only to the study of them, but, having done so, applying what they've learned to some greater ambitions themselves. I can't imagine one being unaffected to the core after close scrutiny of them. Maybe I expected too much?

But after reading some of your replies, geeze, only adds to my conviction we are in need greater study of them, if only to lift ourselves from blurting out, "Aniina? I think she's great." Do tell.

"Hieronomo's mad againe!"

No objections whatsoever. Take your quizzes. Have fun.

Peace,
Jae

Jae,

I know for a fact that Anniina has devoted 12-15 hours per day for months (years) on end to Luminarium. You might want to cut her a little slack. So what if she enjoys walking her dog, posting a silly quiz, or listening to Opera?

It seems to me that you are being short sighted and more than just a bit of a snob. I say that because you seem to professing the belief that limiting one's experiences, and expression of self to more academic pursuits is in some way a path to enlightenment and great works...?

I hate to burst your bubble, but you may want to re-examine that philosophy.

The problem may be that you are simply not aware of how you come across, which is not your fault. In conversation with others - whether it be in professional circles, or in social settings - the whole "look how educated I am" thing gets more than a little old, and certainly annoying. You may not be aware of this, but people find it arrogant, and boring. It leaves them wondering why you have the need to express it in the first place. Is it bad manners? Or maybe you simply are unaware that you are doing it. Hopefully it is the latter, which is more easily fixed.

Aik,

My posts were not about "me" in the sense you are implyig.

Perhaps I was expressing bafflement that a person with the literary background she has would resort to online quizzes to define her identity. I still can't imagine a person who has delved into what she must have, resort to such thin soup but after seeing her post, "fight-conservatives," and seeing how ridculous and shallow the premise, perhaps sheds a little light as to why. I believe I am not entirely incorrect in this.

I know of her industry of course and wish her the best. Luminarium, for those in the know, is truly an oasis.

Jae Lee,

First off, I commend your screen name choice. It takes a bold literati to assume the identity of a man who contributed so much to the world of graphic periodicals. MCP, Namor, Witchblade...I could go on, but obviously, your credentials are in order to critique this blog.

I'll try to use an obtuse vocabulary and complex sentence structure from here on out; so that a big brain like you can understand me (Reader's Digest words are fun!)

Perhaps you need further study on the historicty and the onomastics behind the word "blog," as doing so would broaden your outlook on what constitutes “blog writing.” Metanalysis of the word "blog" reveals linguistically that the term is in fact a portmanteau: "web" "log." Thus, the term means to keep an ongoing log, subject notwithstanding, on the web.

Judging from your two "blogs,” you seem to be operating under the misguided guise that the "blog" is designed for academic journal-type writing. While this usage is not discouraged, it is in fact an anachronistic way to approach the medium; contrastingly, Annina's blog illustrates the actual purpose of a blog: spontaneous writing with no solidified theme. Might I suggest taking a more traditional mode towards your writing? Submit it to an academic journal and subject it to peer review? Just a thought.

Your post is exactly why the layperson hates academics in particular, and elitist snobs in general. You seem to harbor the notion that there is some type of difference between low and high culture, and you've given yourself judging rights on determining what constitutes the one or the other. Amidst your sheer pomposity of trying to sound like a smarty pants, you forgot to spell check the word "implying." Good work there Milton.

And just let me say that as a writing instructor, your prose is atrocious. Put down the thesaurus and pick up a copy of Strunk's "Elements of Style." "I believe I'm not entirely incorrect." Whatta pretentious ass you are.

Anyone that uses the term "those in the know" also probably holds their pinky out when they drink their coffee. I’m sure you like to tell people that you don’t watch TV either, as there simply isn’t anything worth watching…well, besides PBS, of course.

And yes, I most certainly AM using the argumentum ad hominem logical fallacy in arguing against you. I like ad hominem. It’s more fun this way.

And I don't think I'm incorrect in saying (see, I can writes goods two) that Anniina got the liberal quiz from my blog. And you know what? Despite my years of education, my degrees in literature and literary theory, and the works that I've published, I have no problem telling you to take the stick out of your ass.

"Where did all the education go?" I’ll tell you where. Right out the window as soon as the elitist douchebag entered the comments section. F-off Poindexter.

Mark A - Now THAT was hilarious.
"holds their pinky out when they drink their coffee" - classic.

In the history world, we can often spot amateurs by how much they brag about their "mastery" of the subject. Judging from Jae's comments, the same is true in the literary field.

Dear person:

"What I would give to have a tenth of your education!"

That about sums up the weight of your post. Everyone should just file you under the heading "salt, take with a grain of." Meaning that you, and what you say, have no merit.

Did you really think that the results of some dumbass internet quiz, taken for fun, could be so accurate as to base a verbal attack from? Hell, based on some I've taken, I am Spider-Man, Going Straight To Hell, Harry Potter, Alcoholic, Aragorn, Extremely Charismatic, and the World's Second Greatest Lover (I try harder). Now based on this information, since we're judging all by the weight of their internet based quiz scores, means that I am qualified and should be judged on the fact that I am going to use my Magical Super Powers after getting Fucking Drunk proclaim myself King of the West and enjoy my ride to hell atop your girlfriend.

In addition, based on the "fact" that I drive a Camaro, I also Beat People Up for Money.

But hey, here's to pro bono work.

Oh, and for the record, as I always enjoy these little insights into my character:

You are a Social Justice Crusader, also known as a rights activist. You believe in equality, fairness, and preventing neo-Confederate conservative troglodytes from rolling back fifty years of civil rights gains.

Have a nice day.
